And in this brand new season of this exciting podcast, we are boosting the woman-to-woman connection through deep intimate conversations to pause, reflect, and go beyond the skein d.

And we are here to celebrate your unique journey.

No matter how old your business or your babies, or where you are in the world, you are not alone.

It's time to go deeper, understand better, and lean into more harmony and fun along the way.

We are Desiree and Iva, and this is Mom Bosses Abroad.

Hi, and welcome to a new episode of the Mom Bosses Abroad podcast.

I am Iva Perez, and I am here with my beautiful podcast co-host, Desiree Gonzalez.

And if you've ever felt torn between chasing success and actually enjoying the life you're building, this episode is for you.

Today, we're sitting down with Erin Paturzo, someone who has navigated the highs and lows of career transitions like a pro, from climbing the corporate ladder to launching her own business to now stepping fully into the online space.

Erin's journey is one of resilience, reinvention and redefining what success looks like, especially as a mom.

So today, we're diving deep with Erin into the hard truths of running a traditional versus building an online business, the lessons she's learned along the way and the freedom she's creating for herself and her family.

So Erin, welcome to our podcast.

Hi, ladies.

Thank you for having me.

Before we dive into everything, I did want to introduce you a little bit more.

I really had the pleasure of meeting you for the first time in person last year at a retreat in Australia.

And from then, it just totally clicked.

I felt we had so many things in common.

And primarily, I was like, wow, this is another mom boss abroad.

So we got to have her on our podcast.

So, but yes, she is Erin is a mom of one, and she's been living in the UAA for 16 years already.

And when her aviation career ended in 2020, she quickly realized how challenging it was to find flexible work that also allowed her to be a present mother and a present wife.

She's always been financially independent.

So relying on her husband wasn't the path she envisioned for herself.

So she ventured into entrepreneurship, but soon discovered it demanded even more of her time and a constant financial investment, which didn't align with the lifestyle she desired.

So while researching the best water options for her family, Erin discovered that Enagic and its incredible business model, which offered the flexibility to work around her family schedule while earning a substantial income.

I love this.

So now she's passionate about helping women living abroad find a balance between financial independence and being completely present for their families.

Oh Erin, it sounds so like it could be one of us talking.

It's really, we really have this bond.

I feel once we're like living abroad, raising a family, all of a sudden our hands are tied.

We can't work as we used to.

Plus the pandemic threw things out of whack as well.

But often we want to do so much, but our hands are tied in some ways.

So we need to find creative solutions.

So we'd really love for you to just walk us a little bit through that journey of like having been in the aviation industry and then making that jump into entrepreneurship and what that looked like for you.

Yeah, sure.

I mean, I think that's why I love our community so much is because, you know, we've at the core of it, we've all got different stories, but at the core we all want the same thing and we're all desiring to create the same thing.

So we connect really on a much deeper level.

So for me, one of the best things is the community.

So in regards to my story, so yeah, I was in the aviation industry for 12 years until COVID.

As much as it was a very demanding job physically and sometimes mentally, I was still kind of having a free, you could say a freedom lifestyle as being able to travel.

I was a manager on the flight, so I didn't have like anybody on top of me.

I was doing shift, you know, shift hours.

I wasn't in an office or restricted to a nine to five.

So I kind of got used to this life of that little bit of freedom.

So when it all ended for me in 2020, and obviously it was super hard to get a job, I had no idea what I could do, but there was always this little thing that I wanted to start something of my own.

So during 2020, I started researching and coming up with ideas of things that I wanted to do.

While my son was, he was two at that time, he was with me 24-7.

The only time I got to work on my idea or the growing business was when he was napping or at the park.

I can remember just even walking, like talking to manufacturers and things like this.

So then that took about a year of researching because between conversations with manufacturers, it was very delayed because I was, you know, as a mom, I was a full-time mom now.

Something that I was almost like not ready for, to be honest, but, you know, it happened and once I look back now, it was an absolute blessing.

So, yeah, after about a year since I stopped in the aviation industry, I launched my business and thankfully people really took to it in this region.

And it was a success which doesn't often happen.

But the thing with it being a success and being a success very quickly was that I needed to keep putting money and fueling this business.

So I very, very quickly realized quite a few things also that, yeah, this is going to take a lot more investment.

This is actually now taking a lot more of my time and I have my son at home.

I'm not sure how I can do this.

He was not going to school or nursery at that time.

And I also realized in another thing that I didn't want to do a business by myself.

And I much prefer to collaborate with women, with other people, with men, with the community.

So, yeah, this was a really like a crucial point in at that time of what do I do?

You know, people want this brand that I've created, but do I risk putting more money into something that's maybe not going to work?

Like maybe it's just a one hit wonder.

So, yeah, and because both my husband and I had lost our jobs during COVID, it was really a stressful year of, you know, not having an income.

So yes, great, my little business took off, but it's not, is it going to sustain us?

And do I really risk our family now to put more money into this, you know, this beautiful little business?

But when you're starting something, you really have no idea what will happen.

What's the future?

I mean, you see all these famous brands, like brands that get famous on TikTok, but are they sustainable?

Is it like just a one hit wonder?

You know, people, and when it's a business, like a small business, and I was very limited with the products, you know, how scalable is that?

So these are really important things to look at when you want to start your own business, which I didn't know at the time.

I was just like, I'm going to start a little business and see how it goes.

But that's amazing.

So it was a product-based business, right?

So you had a product that you actually went into the whole process of designing, finding manufacturers, having it produced, and having that whole chain of supply, no?

Yeah, so it was a kid's brand here.

It was with a product that was missing in the market here that I couldn't find.

And then obviously I put a lot of effort into branding because this is obviously really important packaging.

But yeah, I did all the steps just while trying to raise my son.

At that time, I was very limited in my mindset.

I came to the UAE at 21 out of university.

All I knew was flying.

I mean, I had done other jobs in the past, but like fashion, retail stores, admin, these kinds of things.

But my mindset was very limited on what jobs were out there, what I could apply for.

What was the salary?

I had even no idea what the salary was if I was earning good in UAE compared to others.

So I also was very limited in my mindset of how much it takes to start a business, get it off the ground, continue it and to make it a success because you can think, oh, I'm making sales, I'm making sales, but are you in profit?

Are you getting yourself into profit?

So there's all these things you need to look at as well.

Or you could be, oh, it's amazing on Instagram.

But again, do you just want to be famous on Instagram or TikTok?

Are you trying to make a living out of it?

So, yeah, these were things that I was not aware of.

And it was a beautiful journey.

And I obviously learned these lessons.

But now I'm very passionate also about the business that we're in.

But also when women or men even come to me and want to launch their own business, I really like to share my knowledge of what I've gone through, because it's all very nice and well to have an idea.

But how is it sustainable, is it scalable?

Are you going to be able to make a profit?

All those things that I mentioned.

Hey, Mama.

If you've been looking for a way to make an impact in health, create long-term wealth for your family and design a freedom lifestyle, all while being part of an amazing supportive community, then listen up.

We found a business model that's not just about making money, but about doing soulful work that's truly aligned with who you are.

No more burnout, no more trading time for money, just a powerful proven way to create real change for yourself and others.

If this speaks to you, head over to mombossesabroad.com and watch a quick 30-minute video that could completely shift your perspective on what's possible for your future.

Because, mama, you deserve freedom, abundance and purpose.

Let's create it together.

So Erin, that takes a lot of courage to be able to follow an idea that you have, to follow your instincts, to see a gap in the market and say, I'm going to be the one that's going to fill that gap and I'm going to put pretty much everything on the line, like what I believe in, and including my own resources, right?

As you were saying, to just to say, okay, it seems like people are getting a like into it or it's resonating with the market, but there's still a lot of unknowns.

But was there a moment for you when you realized that this traditional business model, because this is a little bit the traditional way, right?

It's usually like a product or a service.

And you see that there is a gap in the marketplace and you say, okay, why not me?

Why not now?

And I get started.

But was there a moment for you when you realized that this really wasn't working for you anymore, despite possibly the great reviews, the feedback, the input, the sales or any other markers that were there in place to show you that it was taking off, that it was working, so to speak, but that you said in your heart of hearts, I don't think this is the pathway for me anymore.

Yeah, so for me, it really happened within a few months of launching.

I was like, I don't feel like this is for me.

Like I also, because it was a creative business, I was designing things.

I was also like, I want someone to bounce ideas off.

I don't have that.

And then again, the money thing of having to invest more money in products, that at that time, suppliers were telling me they wanted, and then lo and behold, actually ordered and then orders get canceled and things like that.

So it's very risky.

My story is a success story with my little business because somebody did approach me to buy the business.

So and that kind of happened at the same point I was like to my husband, I don't know if I want to do this.

I'm going to have to put all this money in again now.

What if it doesn't?

All those doubts that you have, like what if it doesn't work?

Do I really enjoy it?

That was the thing.

Like am I really enjoying this?

Is this really what I can see myself doing?

Like I've not invented the wheel.

I've just like found a gap in the market here.

And then here is obviously a very small market.

So it's very hard to scale things, you know, to a big level to be able to make, you know, decent income.

So I was approached by a business to buy my company off me and that I would work with them to grow the business.

So which is, what is really interesting is that even with all their resources and all their money that they put in, you know, it's very hard to scale, grow a business.

Like it's very few and far between that are successful.

And so it was good for me because I was still attached to my, you know, my project, my baby, but I was not having to put in the money, but I was seeing these people with experience and a lot more money.

And still, it's very hard to make this like, it was successful.

But again, is it making enough profit to call it a huge success?

So that was really interesting for me as well.

Very eye-opening and just definitely really turned me off wanting to have a traditional business.

You know, I've looked at other options since then as well in different areas.

And we all know traditional business is like you invest, there's no guarantee it's going to work.

You have to set up and do everything yourself.

And then even if it is successful, you're getting your money back.

A good return on investment would be like three years.

And that's a good return on investment.

So these are things like you've got to, yeah, like I mentioned earlier, you think you're doing sales and you're making money.

But actually where you're putting in money from other areas also, so you're probably not in profit for a good few years.

Yeah.

Oh, these are all such powerful points that you mentioned because I think a lot of people fail to consider that.

They often think, oh yeah, I'm successful now in my brand, but it's exactly up to a certain point where you're like, but it doesn't stop there.

I cannot just invest once and then it'll run forever and ever.

Right?

You have to continuously, continuously put things in and the bigger it grows, the bigger your company, the more resources you need.

So it's actually the cycle of yeah, like reinvestment, reinvestment, more time needed.

So again, putting into the mix that you're a mom, that you want to be present for your little one.

I can imagine how difficult that must have been.

And another point you really mentioned is like that risk factor, right?

Like what if I now put in all of that money and it doesn't work?

Or it doesn't like the supply chain stops or like the demand decreases, what do I do?

Yeah, there's so many things that are out of your control.

Another thing you mentioned is really that risk.

What happens after a while?

What if the demand decreases?

What if people are now shifting their interests?

What if they don't want that product anymore?

Then what happens?

So yes, there is absolutely no guarantee.

And it really brings me to the point of like current conversations that we are having right now in our business where we are being asked these questions, right?

Like, oof, to get into this business, we have to make an investment.

Well, to start any business, you have to make an investment.

You cannot start a business without making any sort of investment, right?

But I feel that the risk factor for the online space that we're in now is just so much lower because first of all, you're getting, you're not investing into nothing because what you're investing in is actually things that you're using on the daily for your family.

It's an investment into health and note that there's not a single day that goes by where you're like, oh, what's happening with my money?

Because it's right there.

We're like literally we're drinking it every day, right?

Like it's the water technology, the EMF harmonization.

Like it's just we're doing our family such a favorite.

So that's already sort of the investment piece.

And then the risk, like one question people often ask me is like, does what if it doesn't work?

What if I can't like, what if I can't sell it to anyone?

What if no one wants to buy it?

Well, well, what is the worst that it can happen?

You are stuck in quotation marks with the most amazing water technology in your home.

You have not wasted a single cent because you literally have these items for most of your life, right?

Because it has a very long lifespan.

And so, it's such a different shift of what we get to work with.

And you, I think, have the perfect experience now, that background really to speak to people.

But risk looks different.

I'll tell you what risk looks like.

I'll tell you what the sustainability side looks like.

So, what do you feel have been the biggest revelations and comparisons to your traditional business and what we are all doing now?

Yeah, so I remember when I first saw this business, and I was just like my, I remember exactly where I was.

I was in Sri Lanka by a pool on a holiday.

And I was just like to my husband, come here, you need to look at this.

Like, I was so blown away.

I didn't know that this could be possible.

And I would just wish that, I mean, I'm thankful for my story, because obviously I learned so much from it.

But I was like, why didn't I know about this, like five years ago?

This is, you know, the risk, like you've just explained is, I'm not handing over any money and hoping for the best.

I'm actually investing in my health, which should be the priority for, you know, all of us.

So, yeah, for me, I didn't see it that there was any risk, even now people keep asking me again, the same question.

Yeah.

But, oh, is it risky?

You know, what's the risk?

And it's, for me, it's very simple.

There is no risk.

If you want to talk about traditional business, I can go into that.

If, you know, my husband and I are in real estate as well, that is very risky and something that gives me a lot of anxiety, so I just make him deal with it, because I don't like risky things.

I like things very, you know, clear, which is what I liked about this business when I saw it.

I was like, okay, this is the investment.

It's not big compared to what I invested in my little business that had no guarantee of being a success.

Oh, I'm getting these amazing products that my family needs.

And I can see a clear path to how I can get into profit.

And that was, you know, five sales or something, as opposed to however many thousands of sunglasses and products I needed to sell or...

Yeah, it was very clear to me from that this was a really successful business model.

And, you know, we do share, my passion is to share this with mothers also, but whenever I have like really savvy business women or businessmen look at it, I mean, they say, you know, this is a really good business plan.

Like, there's no risk here.

So if it's just betting on yourself, then why not give it a go?

Right.

You know, it's...

Did you feel like you had to unlearn anything in order to make this transition, you know, when looking into the water, into, you know, the initial investment, like the plan itself and all of that, and where you were coming from?

And was there anything that you said, oh my god, this is...

Okay, this is a mindset shift that I have to do, or anything that you felt you had to unlearn in order to step fully into this arena?

I obviously, I underestimated how much, you know, mindset work you would have to do in this space.

I had no idea that, you know, that that would be a part of it, to be honest, but I'm so thankful that it is, that I've, you know, learned so many things.

I had to probably give into, even though it's my business now and I'm in control, yeah, I'm very hands on and I, you know, but I don't think that's a bad thing.

Like I've really dug deep into the business and looked at all the numbers right from the beginning.

So I think that's a positive, like from my business past that I, you know, was making all my own little Excel sheets, not relying on even what we had in the collective at one part.

And obviously like you guys, I had to change it for my region here.

Did you feel it was, think that it also required a mindset shift on your spouse's side?

Was it mostly you running with this and saying, I'll take the lead?

Or were you both jumping in together?

Or do you feel that you had to also go through that hurdle of convincing the other person to be like, look, this is a great, great investment.

We should try it out.

So my husband is very, very supportive of anything that I want to do.

And he knows I'm super determined and probably very stubborn.

And when I want to do something, there's no convincing me otherwise.

But at the same time, he knows that I don't like risk and that I wouldn't do something that was going to put our family at risk.

Because, you know, I do speak to women and they're like, Oh, but I've been scammed before, I've lost money on things before.

I'm just really, really thorough with anything I get myself into.

So he really, really trusted me.

And like I explained to him, I said, you know, I want the products anyway.

So for me, I don't see where the risk is.

Like if it doesn't work out, we have these amazing products.

But imagine if it does work out, like, and I start creating this amount of money per sale, and then, you know, in a good few years, I'm at legacy income.

So I'm very blessed that he was supportive from the beginning, but I do understand that, you know, a lot of women struggle with sharing the information with their husband.

And because it's quite detailed and, you know, you watch the webinar, for example, and then you try to relay it to your husband.

It's very, very difficult.

So in that regard, I would always like whenever I'm speaking to women, it's like, you know, let's get on a call and make sure you're really like sitting and watching all the videos with your partner for them to fully get it.

Because if you try and relay what you've watched, it's not going to land the same because you're not experienced yet.

So you really need someone experienced to, you know, talk with your partner and show them and, you know, and explain that at the end of the day, like, yes, you're investing in your health, but you're now investing in yourself and you're giving your, you know, your wife an opportunity to grow and do something that is not going to take her away from her family and can only, you know, only support her to grow as a human and grow her income.

And yeah, it's just, I think I just love this business.

Like, I know, I know, and I love what you say.

Like, it's true.

It's like this overall growth.

It's always, I always say it's so much more than a water ionizer.

Honestly, when you invest in this, it's, you get so much more.

I wasn't even aware of all the things I was going to get with it.

I had no idea.

But it's really taken all of us on this journey of growth, of self-development, and of this incredible privilege of being able to make an impact for other people.

So going back to the traditional business and what people are doing, and inventing, designing, selling, manufacturing, it's like, there are things and they're also nice to have.

I was also in a business before and I'm like, they're all things that are really great.

I'm convinced still to this day, like, I love them, I will never not use these products.

But are they, can you live without them?

Yeah, probably, right?

But this is something so foundational that we have the absolute privilege of making an impact in someone's health.

But at the same time, we have this power to make an impact in really changing the trajectory of their life.

When it comes to this financial part of this abundance, we're able to help them call in for themselves, right?

We're opening the door to, again, health, but we're also opening the door to opportunity.

And to really, I mean, we have so many testimonials in our community, how this has changed lives in terms of what a family can now, like, afford to do, what they can, how they've turned their life around.

I think us as mom bosses abroad, right?

We are abroad for a reason, and it's usually either our job before, or our partner's job that has brought us there.

We're usually in a little bit more of a cushioned space, I have to say, where we're not necessarily struggling for money and we have to make ends meet, and that is why we're jumping into the business.

I think our situation is a little bit different, but it's for me and I know for you guys as well, it's like the power of that impact we can make of helping others.

And even like moms who have, when we became moms, I think none of us were ready.

Even if we desired that child, we had no idea what was going to happen.

Did not come with a manual, we were not prepared, right?

We can read as many books as you like, but when your own child enters your life, it's turned upside down in the most beautiful way.

And that alone, you start to kind of lose, you can lose yourself, but I think this business has the ability to bring you right back to like your strength and your purpose and the difference you can make for other women, for other moms, on so many different levels.

And I think that's one of the most beautiful things about this business.

Yeah, I think like in this region as well, a lot of women, they, I mean, of course, there are some that need the finances, but there are many that they don't actually need the finances that would come from this space.

But like you've just explained, there's so much more that comes from this space.

And I still remember my sister turning to me and being like, the way your mindset has changed, and the way you talk and present yourself is just so much more positive and like really inspiring the way you talk now.

And I was like, yeah, because I'm just surrounded by all these amazing women that I'm learning from daily that I've been like disconnected from that kind of strength in women and mentality of fiery, go-getter women that know that they're worth more and desire more and look at the world in a really beautiful, positive way.

And that there's enough abundance for us all.

And that we're all going to, like this business especially as well, that we all work together to rise up as, we're not competing against each other.

So, yeah, when my sister still daily all the time says to me, I just love how you're blossoming with this business.

And yeah, so for me, the community was a huge, huge part.

And if I don't get any, well, I mean, I've already, I am successful in this space, but to be a better person is already the biggest takeaway that I can take.

So you've got health, you've got becoming a better person, and you've got creating financial independence.

So for me, it just ticks all the boxes.

It's the perfect trifecta.

Absolutely.

With that, with those intangible but extremely priceless transformations that have come from entering this business and realizing how much it has given you, because it's true, we cannot go to a store and get any mindset.

We have to somehow work at it.

We have to face those hesitations or fears or doubts or whatever it is that comes up for us as we are moving forward in this journey.

What would you, what would be the advice Erin, that you would give to women who are considering perhaps stepping out of something that is more nine to five, something that is more traditional in nature and going for something like this, something that is flexible, but it also has so much to give along the way.

I mean, the facts of the business speak for themselves for me.

You know, we've got everything set up for you ready to go.

You're just, you're investing in your health.

Then you can tap into all our resources.

You've got all the mentorship.

So really the hard part is, yeah, your own mindset and working on yourselves and the belief in yourself that you can do it.

And you might not have that at the start and you might not understand everything at the start also, but our community and our mentorship, you know, we'll breathe that belief into you until you can kind of, you know, stand on your own and believe in yourself on your own.

But the advice is, you know, this is the new way of making an income.

It makes the most sense for me if you want to spend more time with your family.

Everything is online, so this is just a natural progression of how life is going.

So I think if you're not on now, you're going to be on in five years.

So why not, you know, the earlier, the better, I say.

Become an early adult.

And just be in.

Yeah.

And it just is the perfect place, especially for women to balance that being at home and having something of their own.

Whether you want to go like hardcore in this business and get to legacy income in two, three, four years, or you just want to take it nice and slow and have a little bit of pocket change.

It's completely up to you how you want to do it, but the space is much more than that, like we've said.

So you just got to believe in yourself.

We have the conversations every day with women that want what we have.

And they even say to you, like, I want this, I don't want to work nine to five, I want more freedom.

Well, I'm giving you an option.

I mean, there is lots of options online, but are they sustainable?

Most likely not.

Are you going to be able to have all the mentorship and all these other things that come from it?

Or are you going to have a product that is, you know, you can't live without?

So my advice would just be, you know, you only have one life.

If you really want to change something in it, then you need to, you need to make the change or everything stays the same, right?

Well said.

Amazing.

So we want to thank you, Erin, so much for chatting with us today and sharing a bit of your journey, which is truly inspirational.

But it's also, it goes way beyond that.

It also showcases what is possible for us.

And it's a spectrum, as you say, we can go in full, full out or we can do it little by little, depending on what our stage in life is like.

So thank you so much for coming today on the podcast and just sharing what has been your very own personal journey, but a journey that resonates with so many of us already.

And if you want to connect with Erin, you can find her on Instagram at Erin underscore Paturzo.

And we're going to be sharing all of her links in our show notes.

So we want to thank you Erin once again for being here with us today.

And getting everybody, all of those beautiful mom bosses abroad that are listening, getting them inspired into stepping into their most wonderful journey yet.

And if you're really curious now, what is this business that we're all in?

What is this amazing community we have all landed in?

Then also in the show notes, you have the webinar that we've put together where you can just see all the details.

And we'd love to have you in our community.

And it's just amazing how we are able to just uplift each other each and every day and make an incredible impact along the way.

So thank you so much and see you in the next episode.

If you found value, inspiration or enagative wisdom in any part of our conversation, we would be so grateful if you could take a moment to show your support.

Meet Erin, a mom of one, who has been living in the UAE for 16 years. When her aviation career ended in 2020, she quickly realized how challenging it was to find flexible work that allowed her to be a present mother and wife. Having always been financially independent, relying on her husband wasn’t the path she envisioned for herself. She ventured into entrepreneurship but soon discovered it demanded even more of her time and a constant financial investment, which didn’t align with the lifestyle she desired. While researching the best water options for her family, Erin discovered Enagic and its incredible business model, which offered the flexibility to work around her family’s schedule while earning a substantial income. Now, she’s passionate about helping women living abroad find a balance between financial independence and being present for their families.
